Understanding the complexities of young people

Meet Rain.

Rain started coming to Youth For Christ’s Campus Life ministry in the fall of 2019 before all the craziness of COVID-19.

Rain is a typical student searching for belonging and purpose. During this season she was wrapped up in witchcraft and spells. Which is on the rise with many young people across the nation.

Meet Rebekah.

Rebekah is one of YFC’s faithful caring adult leaders who understand the complexities of young people. During the fall of 2020, Rebekah reached out to Rain through a relational approach and was able to find a pathway to get her connected to a local partner church’s Wednesday night youth group.

Because of that connection, Rain went to a local winter camp in 2021, when restrictions began to loosen up, where she brought her tarot cards. This provided the local youth pastor, who is also a YFC volunteer ministry leader with a natural pathway towards meaningful conversation with her about spirits and her relationship with Jesus.

Stress in America ™ 2020: A National Mental Health Crisis, released in October, revealed that “Gen Z teens (ages 13–17) and Gen Z adults (ages 18–23) were facing unprecedented uncertainty, experiencing elevated stress and already reporting symptoms of depression.”

These authentic-Christ sharing relationships continued, until finally Rain attended a four-week girl’s small group on a biblical view of mental health led by Rebekah. On the very last night, Rain shared that she was struggling with her mental health and asked for help, and for the very first time, she felt like she wanted to have a relationship with Jesus. Because of the authentic and relational approach from YFC leaders, they continue to journey with Rain through her questions about Jesus and the spiritual realm. By working together with the local church and other like-minded partners, Rain has been connected to a Christian (teen) Counselor AND she is still attending Wednesday night youth group.

Youth For Christ has chapters impacting thousands of communities across the nation that seek out and serve young people from all walks of life, just like Rain. Many are silently struggling through a variety of challenging issues. YFC encourages staff and volunteers to build authentic Christ-sharing relationships through the ups and downs of everyday life.
